Last week Dodge Morgan, one of the greatest figures in American ocean sailing passed away from cancer. There is more history about him than I could possibly fit into this email. However to start with here is a story that ran on the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/18/sports/18morgan.html
While I've been busy kicking my new lithium battery business into gear, it has been a fun summer of racing here in Maine...on both boats and bicycles! Although I had a few decent finishes on the bike, there are no big wins to report. I had a few crashes (ouch!) but I won't bore you with the details. It is really hard to win a bike race here as there a lot of very fast riders to contend with. I'll keep trying.
Spring is here! Or at least it seems like it. Since the mid-atlantic States have stolen much of Maine's snow this year, we are making the best of it and getting outside a lot.
For all of you in or near New England, here is a real way to provide meaningful assistance for the Haitian earthquake victims. All you have to do is bring your tired old sails at one of the drop-off locations (listed below) by March 19. Maine sailor John Eide (a good friend of mine) has organized this drive to provide used sails to be utilized for shelters in Haiti. Lets see what we can do!
