Today is our scheduled departure from Newport,
Rhode Island to Bermuda along with the NARC Rally...well,
almost.
If we leave today we'll swatted by 40+ knots of
wind and heavy rains tomorrow (Tuesday). The wind direction will be
consistently SW for a couple days...so if one was to go for a Newport Bermuda
speed record it's nearly perfect. But that isn't necessarily the kind of
ride we're looking for right now.
By the time you get this the fleet will have
reviewed the latest weather models. Every 6 hours I habitually download
the latest GFS wind/pressure grib models with our Ocens Weathernet software,
hoping for a more benign weather prediction!
If and when we do take off, you will be able to
track OceanPlanet's position on Global
Marine Network's Vessel Tracking...go to our website and click on "Track
OceanPlanet". By noon today you'll see us at the starting point in
Newport. Whether or not we'll be taking off....well, you'll see, I
guess!
One of our crew had couldn't make Leg One, so we
have one spot for the Run to Bermuda (if you can get here in time, which is
probably Tuesday at noon!). There are still two spots available for Leg
Two to Antigua (now scheduled for Nov 7-13)! I'm surprised those didn't
fill first as that will be the warm part of the trip...;-)
