Looking at grass instead of water:
I am finally back home in Maine, where summer
is in full swing. When I left for France on May 8, spring was just
beginning. It's amazing how much things can change in the time it
takes to cross the Atlantic in a sailboat...even
in a fast Open 60.
Margaret Anna is now happily docked in Norfolk,
after our final 3-day leg from Bermuda. Owner Tim Troy is happy to
have his boat on this side of the pond, and to see the boat in better shape than
ever. I like to leave each boat I work on with some nice touches and
Margaret Anna certainly deserved the TLC in return for the fast and
fun transatlantic trip.
Thanks again to my great crew for the trip!
La Rochelle to Bermuda: Anna Stockel, Carina Prakke, and Mike O'Connor.
Bermuda to Norfolk: Carina Prakke, Gale Browning, and Robbie Dickinson.
All of these folks are great sailors who by
participating in the trip really helped out both Tim Troy and the OceanPlanet
Foundation. They helped bring Tim's boat back, and
their support will help to give OceanPlanet her own TLC with a long-overdue
haulout for painting and misc. repairs.
Last minute opening
in women's advanced ocean
sailing training program!
Next week (June 18-22) I'm training a
private group of women sailors on San Francisco Bay and the Northern California
coast. This is not a beginning course, this will be advanced
training and information on electronics, satellite communication, digital
navigation, splicing, general preparation, onboard repairs, sail trim,
watch systems, reefing, safety, etc. This is a private group, but THERE IS
ONE SPOT OPEN. If you are interested, please contact JULIE LUCCHESI at
510-333-8846, or songforu_2000@yahoo.com. Sorry
guys, this course is for women only!
That's all for now...but here is a shot of
crew Anna and Carina from one of the few dry days on the way from La
Rochelle to Bermuda. And the onboard musical services. Sure beats
being locked inside an internet cafe....;-) |
